When Harry Met Sally

Posted on Sat Mar 14th, 2020 @ 7:35pm by Colonel Horatio Refelian & Commander Salvia Carro

Mission: Prelude: Getting The Team Together
Location: Colonel’s Office
Timeline: MD05 - 2130 Hours

Sat in his office, Harry Refelian shook his head as he read the file of his new executive officer. There was only one problem with it, but it was a pretty big one. She was Starfleet and Starfleet officers liked to play by the rules.

It wouldn’t of surprised him if General Walker had assigned her to the position just to wind him up or keep him on the straight and narrow. Whichever way it was he wasn’t looking forward to this.

Sally pressed the chime and ran through an imaginary meeting in her head. It was fine, everything would be okay. She knew how to do her job and nothing was going to change that. Yes, this was a rather odd career assignment but it was good experience nonetheless. When the door opened she put one foot in front of the other, managed to snag her toe on a tiny spot in the carpet and nearly fell into the room on her nose.

“Please...come in, Commander.” The Colonel said with a smirk. “Everything ok?”

"Perfect." Sally said, picking herself up halfway off the ground. "That's always how I make an entrance." She didn't try to hide the annoyance in her voice. "Commander Salvia Carro reporting . . . "

“Pleasure to meet you, Commander.” Harry replied as he offered her his hand to shake. “Colonel Horatio Refelian. Please, take a seat.”

She sat, surprised that her face wasn't completely red, but her annoyance at his response had quickly burned off any embarrassment. Now she was simply curious, about the room, about him, about what her job was going to be like.

“I’m guessing you know why you’ve been assigned to this decrepit station on the edge of the Typhon Expanse?” Refelian said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"Someone hates me? Or this is a really cool secret mission? I honestly haven't decided yet. I was hoping you'd fill in the gaps." Sally played with a strand of hair that had fallen down in her attempt to get into the room. It was a nervous tick she was known for.

“It could be both.” Harry replied with a shrug. “This is a cool secret mission but if that doesn’t float your boat then this assignment could be coz your commanding officer hates you.”

"Nah, not possible. No one really hates me, I'm absolutely delightful." Sal said with a completely straight face. "Seriously, what's going on?"

“The Heads of Starfleet Security and Intelligence, along with the Marines, have set up an operation to help protecting the Federation and her citizens. Operation Shadow Ops will consist of six teams who will be involved in various covert ops that will help defend and protect the Federation.” Refelian said like it was read from the recruitment booklet. “You’ve been assigned to serve as executive officer of Team Scorpio.”

Sal let that sink in as she stared at Refelian. Though her eyes were lingering on him her thoughts were on what this meant. "That's an interesting turn of events. I'm not a soldier though. My specialty is engineering, programming to be more precise."

“I’m guessing you can command as well?” The Colonel asked narrowing his eyes slightly.

"Well I do have the rank of Commander and I've been an XO before. So yes. Look, I know I may not seem like the obvious choice for this position but I promise I won't let you down."

Harry smiled, “I don’t doubt it, Commander, I know I won’t be sent incapable people as that would help get our job done. So you can command and computer programmer, are you domestic engineering trained as well?”

"Yes, at least that's where I started when I joined Starfleet." She eyed him, the interview making her slightly nervous for some reason.

“Good to know, as far as I know we haven’t been assigned an Engineer yet so are you happy to fill in there if needed?” Harry asked.

"I can do that," Sal nodded. Though, she hadn't seen the ship yet so she had no idea what she was getting herself into. "I prefer to keep busy, less time to think about my situation if my hands have something to do."

“Excellent, our main mode of transport should be arriving in the next few days. It’s a Ju’Day Class vessel.” Harry informed her.

"Never worked on one before. But there's a first time for everything." Her mind was already drifting off to what it might be like. "How many people will be on this . . . team Sir?"

“She’s an older class but one that’s more widely used in the civilian sector. I believe the Marquis also used these ships before the Dominion culled them.” Harry explained. “As for the team size, I’m guessing no more than 10 will make up the team.”

"Understood. Nothing wrong with an older ship, perhaps more for me to work on but I enjoy getting my hands dirty. Besides, hiding in plain sight is a pretty good option."

“That’s something we’ll be doing a lot of, Commander. Any other questions?” The Colonel asked.

"No sir," Sal stood up with the understanding she was about to be dismissed.

“Very well, get yourself settled into what’s laughably called your quarters and get acquainted with team members as they arrive. I’m sure we’ll be put to work sooner rather than later.” Harry said as he too stood up and offered his hand for the Commander to shake. “My door is always open.”

She took the hand but only shook it, nodded and left the room without another word feeling as if she'd already made a bit of an idiot of herself and didn't need to linger further.
